Nasonex
Nasonex is an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid drug prescribed to treat symptoms of allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps like sneezing, nasal itching and stuffy nose. This drug is a nasal spray that can be used by both adults and children above the two years of age. The safety and efficacy of Nasonex has not been determined for the children below the two years of age and in children below the eighteen years of age for the treatment of nasal polyps. Nasonex Composition
Active ingredient present in the drug Nasonex is Mometasone furoate monohydrate and the inactive ingredients in the drug include microcrystalline cellulose glycerol, citric acid monohydrate, carboxymethycellulose sodium, sodium citrate, benzalkonium chloride and polysorbate 80.
How does Mometasone Work?
Mometasone in the Nasonex spray is a corticosteroid and anti-inflammatory drug that controls swelling and inflammation in the nasal passages. Swelling and inflammation is caused by allergens like pollen and dust that causes allergic reactions. Thus, to control the symptoms of allergic reactions, patients are prescribed with Mometasone that blocks the production of inflammatory chemicals such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Blocking the production of these chemicals reduces signs of inflammation, swelling and irritation thereby relieving allergic symptoms like nasal congestion and sneezing. This nasal spray also slows down the growth of nasal polyps that causes nasal congestion.
