Spiriva

How Spiriva Works?

Spiriva works by opening the airways that get narrowed due to COPD. Acetylcholine is a natural chemical that usually acts on muscarinic receptors, causing airways muscle to contract and airways to narrow. Tiotropium blocks the muscarinic receptors in the lungs thereby stopping the action of acetylcholine. This results in relaxing the muscle and opening of the airways, making it easier for the patients to breathe.
