Singulair is used to treat asthma, exercise-induced asthma and allergic rhinitis, which is the irritation caused by allergies resulting in stuffy or running nose. Singulair is a leukotriene inhibitor, which prevents narrowing of the passageways in the lungs often caused by allergens.
Generic Singulair can be used by adults and children. Children can use Singulair for the treatment of allergies as young as six months. Children must be at least 12 months old to take Singulair for asthma. Teenagers of at least 15 years old can use Singulair for exercise-induced asthma symptoms. However, you cannot use Singulair for asthma and exercise-induced asthma at the same time as too many doses are required.
