Usage Instructions and Dosage

Abilify or Aripiprazole should be consumed exactly as prescribed by the doctor. One should not increase or reduce the dosage at will and must strictly follow the directions as prescribed by the doctor.

• Abilify can be taken with or without food.
• This drug should not be taken for more than 6 weeks.
• The tablets should be consumed immediately after removing them from their sealed blisters.
• The drug should be regularly consumed to obtain the best results.

Dosages

Different doses of Aripiprazole are prescribed to the patients for different disease. The dosage of the drug also depends upon patient’s age, weight, health conditions and other medications taken by them. The dosage of Abilify for different indications are as below:

Schizophrenia - The recommended dose of Abilify for adults is 10 mg to 15 mg in a day. The starting dose for adolescents (15 to 17 years) is 2 mg of tablet in a day that can be gradually increased to 10 mg in a day.
Bipolar disorder - The recommended dose in adults is 15 mg in a day. Depending upon the response the dose can be increased to a maximum of 30 mg in a day. The starting dose for children of 13 to 17 years of age is 2 mg in a day that can be increased to 10 mg in a day.
Major depressive disorder – The recommended starting adult dose is 2 mg to 5 mg taken once in a day. The dose can be increased to 15 mg in a day only after 1 week.

Missed Dose and Overdose of Drug

One should follow the exact dosage schedule and should avoid missing any dose. In case a dose is missed one should take it immediately on remembering it. One should avoid taking any extra dose of the drug, as it can prove harmful.
Overdose of Abilify requires immediate medical attention. One can call their local poison help line for advice. Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness, vomiting, agitation, aggression, confusion and tremors.

Storage Instructions

• Abilify should be stored in a closed container at room temperature between 15°C to 30°C.
• The drug should be kept away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
• The drug should be kept out of the reach of children.
• Safely dispose the expired and unused medications.
