Abilify
Aripiprazole is the generic name of the drug Abilify. Abilify is a partial dopamine agonist and is a second generation class of antipsychotics drugs. Abilify Composition
Aripiprazole is the active ingredient present in Abilify whereas inactive ingredients are Hydroxypropyl Cellulose, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Cornstarch, Lactose Monohydrate, and Magnesium Stearate.
Abilify Mechanism
The human brain is made of innumerable nerve cells that communicate by releasing chemicals known as neurotransmitters. Different neurotransmitters are responsible for different functions of the brain but the two chemicals that play an important role in the emotional health are dopamine and serotonin. Although the exact cause of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder is unknown, scientists believe that these problems occur due to the inappropriate neurotransmitters level. Too much of dopamine chemicals in certain parts of brain can leads to symptoms like delusions while insufficient amount of dopamine in brain can lead to symptoms like lack of emotion and energy. Thus, Aripiprazole is prescribed to treat these conditions. While the exact mechanism of the medicine is unknown, the drug is believed to work by affecting the activity of dopamine and serotonin in the body.
