Diovan Composition
Diovan is formulated using both active and inactive ingredients.
Active Ingredient – Valsartan is the active ingredient of the drug.
Inactive ingredients – Inactive ingredients present in the drug include cellulose compounds, crospovidone, gelatin, iron oxides, magnesium stearate, povidone, sodium lauryl sulfate, and titanium dioxide.
Valsartan Working Mechanism
Valsartan works by blocking angiotensin II receptors in the body that prevents the action of angiotensin II hormone. Angiotensin II hormone leads to narrowing of the blood vessels and allow retention of salt and water in the kidneys. Both these actions of the hormone are prevented by inhibiting it. Thus, by blocking its effect Valsartan allows blood vessels to relax and widen, thereby making it easier for the heart to function. With the widening of the blood vessels, the pressure of the blood is reduced. By blocking the angiotensin II action, the amount of fluid removed from the blood is also increased, thereby decreasing the fluid amount from the blood vessels. The combined effect of the drug Valsartan helps in lowering the blood pressure.
