Lipitor
Lipitor is a member of the statins group of drug that is used for lowering cholesterol level in the blood. Lipitor Active and Inactive Ingredients
Active ingredient present in Lipitor is Atorvastatin calcium and its inactive ingredients include calcium carbonate, candelilla wax, croscarmellose sodium, hydroxypropyl cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, Hypromellose, polyethylene glycol, talc, titanium dioxide, polysorbate 80 and simethicone emulsion.
Atorvastatin Mechanism
In patients having high cholesterol level, fats and cholesterol get accumulated along the arteries walls thereby decreasing blood flow and supply of oxygen to brain, heart and other body parts. Reduced blood flow and oxygen supply are the prime reason for problems like coronary artery disease, angina, stroke and heart attack. Thus, such patients are prescribed with Atorvastatin that works by blocking the enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase in the liver which is responsible for the production of cholesterol in the body. The decreased amount of cholesterol allows liver to takes up more cholesterol from the bloodstream thereby resulting in lower level of cholesterol circulating in the blood.
