Zetia

Zetia is an anti-hyperlipidemic medication which lowers cholesterol level in the blood. It blocks the absorption of cholesterol in the small intestine. This drug works either alone or in combination with other drugs like Fenofibrate or Statins. Zetia Composition

The drug comprises of both active and inactive ingredients. Ezetimibe is an active ingredient in the drug and the inactive ingredients are croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, povidone, microcrystalline cellulose and sodium lauryl sulfate.

Zetia Mechanism

Cholesterol is absorbed in the body from the food consumed. If there is high level of cholesterol in the blood it can stick to the walls of blood vessels and if left untreated it can cause problems like heart attacks and strokes. Thus, Ezetimibe is prescribed. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed by the small intestine.
