Advair Usage Instructions

Advair comes with patient instructions so that patients can safely and effectively use the drug. It is important to carefully follow the medication instructions.

Advair Diskus is a powder form of medication. It comes with a special inhaler device that is pre-loaded with blister packs containing measured doses of the medicine. Each time when the patients use the inhaler the device opens and loads a blister.

Advair HFA is an aerosol form of medication. It comes in a canister that is used with an actuator inhaler device. Patients should only use the inhaler device provided with Advair HFA and should not use with a spacer.

  • Patients must shake the Advair inhaler for at least 5 seconds before each spray.
  • Patients must rinse their mouth with water after using this medicine to reduce the chance of yeast infection.
  • This inhaler drug should not be used after 120 sprays, even if there is medicine left in it.
  • There should be an interval of 12 hours between the two dosages of the drug.

Advair Dosage

The recommended dose of Advair is two oral inhalations taken twice in a day at an interval of 12 hours. Usually the starting dose of this drug is prescribed depending upon the severity of asthma problem in the patients. However, in no circumstances the dose should be increased than 230/21 mcg of Advair taken twice in a day.

Missed and Overdose

In case of a missed dose, patients can take it as soon as they remember. If the time for next scheduled dose is approaching then patients can skip the missed dose and continue with the regular dosing schedule. Doubling the dose of the drug is not recommended in any circumstances.

If anyone has taken an overdose of Advair then the patient should be provided with immediate medical attention. Patients can also seek advice from their Local Poison help centres. Some of the overdose symptoms include chest pain, high blood pressure, nervousness and headaches.

Storage

Advair must be stored at controlled room temperature i.e. 20°C to 25° C. It should be stored in a cool, dry place and must be kept away from direct heat or sunlight.
