Advair
Advair is a drug used to treat bronchospasm caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and to prevent airways spasms from occurring in asthma patients. It is available in two forms, Advair Diskus and Advair HFA inhaler. The Advair Diskus is approved for the treatment of both asthma and COPD, while the Advair HFA inhaler is approved only for the treatment of asthma. This drug is not used for treating asthma attacks because it does not act quickly. It is used only to prevent asthma attacks in patients and is used as a long term maintenance treatment that significantly improves lung function. Advair is approved by majority of drug regulatory authorities around the world.

Composition
Advair contains two active ingredients Fluticasone Propionate and Salmeterol Xinofoate and the inactive ingredients lactose and milk proteins.
How Advair Works
In asthma, the airways in the lungs get narrowed because of the inflammation. This makes it difficult for the air to go into and out of the lungs. Fluticasone Propionate helps in preventing asthma attacks by reducing airway inflammation and mucus formation. When Fluticasone is inhaled it gets absorbed into the lungs and airways cells. Fluticasone prevents the release of chemicals in the airways that produce allergic reactions resulting in inflammation. Preventing the release of these chemicals in airways reduces the inflammation. Salmeterol is a beta agonist class of drug that stimulates beta receptors in the body and on the muscles around the airways. This allows the airways muscles to relax thereby allowing more air to get into and through the lungs.
