Side Effects

Side effects are common in many medication. Most of the side effects are quite normal and do not require any medical intervention. In the event one experiences any severe side effects, patients must immediately inform the doctor. Some of the common side effects that usually disappear after regular usage include:

• Headaches
• Sore throat
• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Bronchitis
• Coughing
• Nausea

Severe Side Effects of Advair

In rare cases, severe side effects are reported by the patients. If any patient experiences severe side effects then patient should immediately stop the medication and consult the doctor. Very few severe side effects have been reported for Advair. Some of them are as follows:

• Very fast heart rate
• Irregular heart rhythm
• Breathing problems that are deteriorating with time

Drug Interactions

In clinical studies, it has been shown that if Advair is taken with certain medications like beta blockers or diuretics, it may cause drug interactions. These interactions can either change blood concentrations of a drug or can increase the risk of side effects.

Certain medications that may interact with Advair include:

• Beta blockers like Atenolol, Bisoprolol, Metoprolol, Nadolol, Propranolol etc.
• Antibiotics or antifungals like Clarithromycin, Erythromycin, Isoniazid, Itraconazole, Ketoconazole etc.
• Diuretics like Bumetanide, Chlorothiazide, Chlorthalidone, Ethacrynic acid, Furosemide etc.
• Long-acting beta agonists like Arformoterol, Indacaterol maleate, Formoterol, Mometasone, formoterol etc.

Advair Warnings and Precautions

There are certain important Advair warnings that patients must be aware of in order to safely administer the drug. Patients should consult the doctor before taking Advair if they have any of the following problems:

• Diabetes
• Osteoporosis
• Irregular heart rhythm
• High blood pressure
• Heart diseases
• Epilepsy
• Hyperthyroidism
• Food, dyes or preservatives allergy

Patients prescribed with Advair must also be mindful of the following warnings:

• Advair is not a fast acting asthma drug and hence it cannot replace fast-acting rescue inhalers.
• This drug should not be recommended to patients whose asthma has worsened.
• Patients should not take Advair more frequently than prescribed because it increases the risk of side effects.
• This drug can also have a stimulatory effect on the heart and blood pressure.
• Long term use of this drug can increase the risk of decreased bone mineral density, which may even result in osteoporosis.
• Advair may suppress the immune system thereby causing higher risk of infections.
