Celebrex Composition
Celecoxib is the active ingredient in Celebrex. The inactive ingredients used in the drug include magnesium stearate, povidone, edible inks, gelatin, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium and sodium lauryl sulfate.
Celecoxib Working Mechanism
COX-1 and COX-2 are the two different types of enzyme present in the body. COX-2 enzyme produces prostaglandins in response to injury or disease that causes pain, swelling and inflammation in the body. COX-1 is a useful prostaglandin that is involved in maintaining a healthy stomach and intestinal lining. Thus, Celecoxib works by blocking the action of COX-2 enzyme that produces prostaglandins which causes pain, swelling and inflammation in the body. Celecoxib is preferred over other anti-inflammatory drugs because of the fact that it is found effective in treating pain and inflammation by blocking only COX-2 enzyme. Unlike other anti-inflammatory drugs, Celebrex doesn’t block useful prostaglandin COX-1 and thus is less likely to cause gastro-intestinal side effects such as ulcers.
