Drug Interactions of Celecoxib

Whether a patient is taking any prescription or non-prescription medication, it is important to tell doctors about the same. There are certain drugs that may interact with Celebrex. Therefore, if a patient is taking any of the following drugs they should disclose them to their doctor before beginning therapy. The following drugs are known to interact with Celebrex.

• Antidepressants like citalopram, fluoxetine, etc.
• Blood thinner like warfarin
• Fluconazole
• Lithium
• Diuretic like furosemide
• Heart or blood pressure medications like candesartan, losartan, etc.
• ACE inhibitors like benazepril, lisinopril, ramipril, etc.

Celecoxib Important Warnings and Precautions

The drug is not recommended to everybody as there are certain medical conditions which may modify its effects on the body. So, in order to ensure that one can safely take Celebrex, it is prudent for them to discuss with their doctors about any medical conditions that they may have.

The following medical conditions may be a contraindication for Celebrex therapy.

• Diabetes
• Asthma
• High blood pressure,
• High cholesterol levels
• Heart failure or history of heart problems
• Allergies to any medicine, food substances or preservatives
• Liver or kidney problems
• Peptic ulcer
• Blood clotting disorder
• Bleeding from rectum or sticky bowel motions

If a patient is smoker or a frequent consumer of alcohol, it is necessary to disclose this to their health care provider.

Intake of Celebrex is strictly prohibited in following conditions:

• If a woman is pregnant or breast-feeding
• Children below 18 years of age
• Allergic to active or inactive ingredients of the drug
• Have had asthma attack, hives
• Bleeding in stomach or intestine
• Have undergone heart bypass surgery
