Canadian Abuse CEO Joins Worldwide Fight
Michel Perron, the chief executive officer of the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA), has stepped into a new role as chairman of the Vienna NGO Committee on Drugs (VNGOC). Perrons appointment sees Canada becoming a major player on the global front in the fight against worldwide and Canadian drugs, and shows the level of respect worldwide that the CCSA has achieved for its fight against Canadian drugs and the harm they cause in society as a whole.
The Vienna NGO Committee on worldwide and Canada Drugs serves as an important link in the chain between NGOs and major international agencies involved in the making of policies regarding the control of worldwide and Canada drugs, and has been in operation for almost thirty years, since 1983.
As the global NGO community continues to move forward, we can achieve tremendous progress by working alongside our partners in government, multi lateral institutions and among ourselves, says Michel Perron. VNGOC has worked incredibly hard to create consensus amongst an expansive diversity of approaches and philosophies from the NGO community through the Beyond 2008 process, which brought the voice of more than nine hundred NGOs from a hundred and forty five countries into the international drug policy arena. Perron also goes on to say that VGNOC has a responsibility to ensure that the Beyond 2008 Declaration and Resolutions are capitalized, as they represent a road map and unique consensus on addressing drug abuse. Perron will take up his new role as Chairman of the VNGOC from the first of January next year.
