A new study involving subjects from 50 countries found that black tea may be beneficial for reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes, which patients can also buy Actos to manage, but some researchers noted that the findings are not conclusive, reported Web MD.
According to Ariel Beresniak, M.D., Ph.D., who works for research group Data Mining International, while there is a correlation between the diabetes and black tea consumption, there needs to be further research to prove a definite link.
"You certainly can't say that on the basis of this study alone, but the findings are consistent with previous studies that have also suggested a link," said Beresniak.
Black tea is darker and more fermented than green and white tea, which have also been shown to lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, reported WebMD. Beresniak told the news source that while there is no clear reason why the beverage may be effective in preventing the condition, research in the future may show that the fermentation process, which creates antioxidants known as flavonoids, is what makes it effective.
Diabetes statistics and prevention
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), nearly 215,000 people under 20 years old had diabetes in the U.S. during 2010, while 1.9 million people who were 20 years and older were diagnosed with the disease that same year. In total, nearly 8.3 percent of the U.S. population is affected by diabetes.
There are other factors that have been proven to help reduce the risk of diabetes, one of which is physical activity, according to the Mayo Clinic. By regularly exercising, people can shed weight - a risk factor for diabetes - and lower their blood sugar. It also increases the body's sensitivity to insulin, which helps regulate blood sugar.
Diet also plays a crucial role in preventing diabetes. The Mayo Clinic suggests consuming foods that are rich in fiber, such as fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains. These can aid in weight loss because they make people feel full and they also bolster blood sugar control.
Symptoms
Some symptoms of type 2 diabetes, according to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), include getting infections regularly, bruises and cuts that take a long time to heal, tingling and numbness in the hands and feet. Frequent bladder infections along with any of the type 1 diabetes signs like extreme thirst, hunger and an abnormal amount of fatigue and irritability.
